## Short answer

As of October 28, 2026, the Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni ($649.99) is the best robot vacuum for thick carpet: Vacuum Wars measured 91% embedded sand removal from carpet and 2.44 kPa of sealed suction, far above the 0.99 kPa average, and its mop lifts 15 mm over rugs. The best budget pick is the Roborock Q10 S5+ ($329.99), which removed 96% of embedded sand, the best carpet result on our list. The premium pick is the Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro ($1,299.99), with 93% sand removal, a 57 mm climb and strong deep pile results from EFTM. Avoid the Shark AI Ultra and Eufy X10 Pro Omni for deep carpet.

## How we ranked them

Thick carpet is the hardest floor for a robot. Dirt sinks deep into the pile, wheels sink in, and a damp mop can soak the fibers. Dreame's own carpet guide calls high pile and shag the hardest test for any robot vacuum and says a robot on thick carpet is a maintenance tool, not a replacement for a deep clean.

We ranked every robot vacuum on our list by the embedded sand test Vacuum Wars runs on carpet, which is the closest public measure of deep cleaning. We then looked at measured suction, how high the mop lifts on carpet, how well each robot climbs onto raised rugs, and price. We did not run our own trials.

## Best overall for thick carpet: Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni ($649.99)

The T80S Omni pairs strong carpet results with a full dock at a mid range price. Vacuum Wars measured 91% embedded sand removal from carpet and 2.44 kPa of sealed suction, the highest suction figure on our list and well above the 0.99 kPa average. It also picked up 100% of flattened pet hair with no hair wrap.

Its roller mop lifts 15 mm on carpet, and the dock washes it in hot water and dries it, so you can mop the kitchen and vacuum the bedroom carpet in one run. It avoided 21 of 24 test objects.

The weak point is climbing. Ecovacs rates it for 20 mm thresholds and Vacuum Wars measured 19 mm, so a thick rug with a tall edge may stop it. Vacuum Wars also found its navigation slow.

## Best budget pick: Roborock Q10 S5+ ($329.99)

If carpet cleaning is all you care about, the Q10 S5+ measured the best result on our list: 96% embedded sand removal and 96% pet hair pickup with no hair wrap, in Vacuum Wars testing. Vacuum Wars also estimated about 1,243 sq ft per charge, which helps because carpet drains batteries faster.

The dock empties into a 2.7 L bag rated for up to 7 weeks. Its pad lifts 8 mm when it finds carpet, but the dock does not wash or dry the pad.

It avoided only 6 of 24 obstacles, Roborock does not publish its climbing height, and Vacuum Wars flagged early failure reports. The Dreame D20 Plus ($309.99) is a close alternative at 93% sand removal with a 150 day bag, but it has no mop lift and avoided 0 of 24 obstacles.

## Best premium pick: Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro ($1,299.99)

The Qrevo Edge 3 Pro is the premium robot we would pick for a carpet heavy home. Vacuum Wars measured 93% embedded sand removal and a 57 mm threshold climb, so it gets onto raised rugs that stop other robots. Vacuum Wars also estimated about 1,382 sq ft per charge, above average.

EFTM found it strong on deep pile carpet, and its pads lift 15 mm on rugs. The dock washes the pads at up to 212°F and doses detergent.

Vacuum Wars measured below average bench suction and airflow on this model, and it avoided 18 of 24 obstacles. The Roborock Saros 20 ($1,599.99) has the same 57 mm climb and a 20 mm mop lift but measured 89% on carpet.

## Robots to avoid on thick carpet

RTINGS found the Shark AI Ultra struggles with solid debris and pet hair even on low pile carpet. The Eufy X10 Pro Omni was inconsistent on a 2 cm sill in TechRadar testing and only fully cleared flour on its Turbo deep clean setting. The iRobot Roomba Max 775 Combo picked up only 35% of chia seeds on carpet for Tom's Guide.

Budget robots with weak carpet hair results are also a poor match. Tom's Guide measured only 67.8% pet hair pickup on carpet for the Tapo RV30 Max Plus. T3 said fluffy rugs remained a weak spot for the Eufy Omni S2, even though Vacuum Wars measured 87% on its carpet.

## Tips for thick and shag carpet

Very deep pile and shag can trip a robot's cliff sensors. Dreame explains that when the pile is deep enough, the downward sensors read the drop as a stair, so the robot stops and skips that area. If that happens, set a no go zone on the rug and vacuum it by hand.

Turn on carpet boost so suction rises automatically on rugs, and set the mop to lift or detach. Check how high the mop lifts: 15 mm or more, as on the T80S Omni and Qrevo Edge 3 Pro, keeps pads clear of most rugs. Tie up rug tassels and fringes, which jam brushes.

Plan more frequent runs. A robot that runs daily keeps dirt from working deep into the pile, and that matters more on thick carpet than peak suction numbers.

## Questions people ask

### What robot vacuum is best for thick carpet?

The Ecovacs Deebot T80S Omni at $649.99. Vacuum Wars measured 91% embedded sand removal from carpet and 2.44 kPa of sealed suction, and its mop lifts 15 mm on rugs.

### Can a robot vacuum clean high pile or shag carpet?

Some can, with limits. Dreame says deep pile can trigger cliff sensors and calls a robot on thick carpet a maintenance tool. Very long shag usually needs a no go zone and a regular upright vacuum.

### What is the best cheap robot vacuum for carpet?

The Roborock Q10 S5+ at $329.99. It removed 96% of embedded sand from carpet in Vacuum Wars testing, the best result on our list.

### Does higher Pa suction mean better carpet cleaning?

Not reliably. The Roborock Qrevo Edge 3 Pro claims 36,000 Pa but measured below average bench suction, yet it still removed 93% of embedded sand. Look for measured carpet results instead.

### Will a robot mop get my carpet wet?

Not if it lifts or removes its mop on carpet. The T80S Omni and Qrevo Edge 3 Pro lift 15 mm and the Eufy Omni S2 lifts 28 mm. Robots with no lift, like the Dreame D20 Plus, need no mop zones around rugs.
