# Loona vs Ropet: roaming robot pet or cuddly desk pet

Loona vs Ropet comes down to movement versus touch. KEYi Loona ($429, was $529) drives around the house, plays games and chats, but leans on KEYi's cloud. Ropet KAMOMO Pro ($279.99, was $349) is a warm, furry pet that stays on a table, costs $149 less and does most of its thinking offline.

## Short answer

Buy KEYi Loona ($429) if the robot is for kids who want a pet that follows them, plays games and talks back. Accept that its AI runs on KEYi's cloud, it has a camera you can view remotely and it lasts about 2 to 4 hours per charge. Buy Ropet KAMOMO Pro ($279.99) if you want something soft and warm to hold on a desk or sofa, with recognition and behaviors that work offline. It does not move around the room, lasts about 2.5 to 3.5 hours per charge and ships only to the US mainland.

## The short version

These two get compared because both are cute AI pets in the same price band, and KEYi itself writes about Ropet. In use they are very different. Loona is a small rover that explores the floor. Ropet is a plush pet you hold or keep on a desk.

Ropet costs $149 less at today's sale prices and keeps more of its data at home. Loona does far more as a toy, but more of what it does depends on KEYi's servers staying up.

## Price and what is in the box

KEYi's store listed the Loona Petbot Premium at $429, down from $529. A Buzzer Beater bundle was $488 and the Space Edition $699. KEYi also sells a separate charging dock at $79, so check the listing to see if one is included with the bundle you choose. RoboZaps listed Loona at $499 in July 2026, so the price moves with sales.

Ropet's store listed the KAMOMO Pro at $279.99, down from $349, with the robot, a charging base, a USB cable, white fur and a gray mask. The Purple Fur bundle was $295.99 and the Panda bundle $311.99. Extra furs cost $35 to $55. Shipping is free on orders of $99 or more.

## How they play

Loona rolls around the house, follows people, plays games and responds to voice. RoboZaps credits its character animation, which won a CES Innovation Award, and calls families with kids its best fit. TechCrunch found it charming when left to roam in its early 2023 review, but saw face and voice recognition work only some of the time, saw it get stuck on furniture and found the ears fragile. KEYi says its 2026 units use stronger joints and actuators.

Ropet stays in one place. It tracks you with its eyes, turns toward you, reacts to petting and responds to gestures, including a hush gesture to quiet it. Robots Around The House praised its eye contact, its fur and its sounds. That reviewer found Ropet did not react to its name and kept trying to turn while held on a lap. Engadget, at CES 2025, called it what the modern Furby wishes it could be.

## Privacy, cameras and the cloud

Both robots have cameras. Loona's camera can be viewed through the app as a patrol camera, and RoboZaps says its AI features run on KEYi's servers. KEYi says GPT chat is free "for the moment" and has flagged rising cloud and tariff costs, so a future fee is possible.

Ropet says its lifelike behaviors, recognition and personality growth work offline. App features, AI chat, diaries and its Dream Sketch photo feature can use the cloud. Ropet says Dream Sketch is off until you turn it on. If you want a pet that keeps working with the WiFi off, Ropet is the safer choice.

## Battery and charging

KEYi lists 2 to 4 hours per charge for Loona, and RoboZaps says battery life is a common owner complaint. Ropet lists 2.5 to 3.5 hours, charges in about 1 to 2 hours and can stay plugged into its base while in use, which suits a desk pet.

## Company and support risk

KEYi has sold Loona since its crowdfunding campaigns and now sells several models. KEYi gives a one year warranty and says it often replaces bad ears or gearboxes for buyers from authorized sellers. The software kit promised during the Kickstarter has not shipped, per KEYi.

Ropet is newer. Robot Review Desk describes it as a young, single product company and scored the robot 6.7 out of 10, citing short battery life and limited real conversation. Ropet gives a one year warranty in the US and takes returns within 30 days of shipment on direct orders. It ships to the US mainland only, not Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
