# Roborock error codes and how to fix them

Roborock robot vacuums report problems as numbered errors, like Error 1 or Error 13, plus a few named errors such as Internal error. This page lists every code Roborock explains in its manuals and support pages, with the official fix for each.

## Short answer

A Roborock error is a number spoken by the robot and shown in the app. The most common are Error 1 (LiDAR laser not spinning or blocked), Error 5 (main brush tangled), Error 8 (robot stuck), Error 9 and 10 (filter not detected, or blocked or wet), Error 13 (charging contacts) and Error 18 (fan blocked). Roborock's fix is almost always to clear the blockage or clean the part, then restart. If the code comes back, contact Roborock support.

| Code | Meaning | Fix from Roborock |
|---|---|---|
| Error 1 | LiDAR laser unit not spinning or blocked | Check the laser turret for anything blocking it, turn it gently by hand, restart |
| Error 2 | Bumper stuck | Clean the bumper and tap it gently until it moves freely |
| Error 3 | Wheels lifted off the floor | Move the robot to a new spot and restart |
| Error 4 | Cliff sensor problem | Wipe the cliff sensors, move the robot away from drops, keep it off dark or shag carpet, restart |
| Error 5 | Main brush tangled or stuck | Remove the main brush and clear hair from it, its slots and both ends and bearings; Roborock also suggests running with Carpet mode on |
| Error 6 | Side brush stuck | Remove the side brush and clean it |
| Error 7 | Wheels stuck | Press and spin each wheel by hand to free it, move the robot and restart |
| Error 8 | Robot stuck or blocked | Clear obstacles around it, free the wheels, remove the water tank if one is fitted, try again |
| Error 9 | Dust bin or filter missing or not recognized | Refit the dust bin and filter; on newer models check the filter has its side magnet, and replace the filter if not |
| Error 10 | Filter blocked or wet | Clean the filter, dry it fully, refit it and try again |
| Error 12 | Battery too low | Recharge, then try again |
| Error 13 | Charging error, contacts not connecting | Clean the contacts on the robot and dock with a dry or alcohol cloth or an eraser, reseat the robot until the dock light goes off, push the dock cable in firmly, try another outlet |
| Error 14 | Battery error | Roborock lists no home fix; contact support |
| Error 15 | Wall sensor dirty | Clean the wall sensor |
| Error 16 | Robot tilted | Place it on level floor and restart |
| Error 17 | Side brush error | Reset the robot |
| Error 18 | Fan error or debris in the fan | Clap the side of the robot a few times to shake out debris, empty the bin, clean or replace the filter, update the firmware |
| Error 21 | Vertical bumper pressed | Move the robot and try again |
| Error 22 | Dock locator error | Clean the charging sensor area and try again |
| Error 23 | Cannot return to the dock | Clean the dock's signal area and try again |
| Error 27 | VibraRise mop lift stuck | Check the mop system for obstructions |
| Error 28 | Robot on carpet | Move it onto hard floor and try again |
| Error 42 | Maintenance brush in the dock jammed (S7 MaxV Ultra, S7 Max Ultra, S8 Pro Ultra) | If the brush stops on the left, clear what is jamming it; if it stops on the right, clean the filter and seat it properly |
| Internal error | System fault | Press the Reset button under the top cover; this restores factory settings, including Wi-Fi and schedules |
| Fan speed lowered | Suction fan is running slow | Clear the strainer and replace the filter |
| No go zone or virtual wall detected | Robot started inside a blocked area | Move the robot out of that area and restart |
| Cannot cross carpet | Robot cannot get past a carpet | Move it to the other side of the carpet and restart |
| Dock light steady red | Dock problem (wash and fill docks) | Check the dust bin or bag, both water tanks and the water filter are fitted, refill clean water, empty dirty water, check your voltage suits the dock |

## How Roborock error codes work

When a Roborock robot stops, it speaks the error number and shows it in the Roborock app. Codes 1 to 28 come from Roborock's user manual list, which is the same across many S series and Q series robots. Newer models like the Saros and Qrevo lines use the same core numbers, and Roborock's own troubleshooting pages for the Saros 10 and Qrevo Curv 2 Flow cover Error 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 18.

A few numbers have been reworded over time. In the older manual, Error 9 means the dust bin is missing; on newer pages it means the filter magnet is not detected. Both point to the bin and filter, so check both.

## The general fix sequence

Roborock's steps for nearly every code follow the same order.

- Find the part named in the error: laser turret, brush, wheel, filter, sensor or charging contacts.

- Clear tangles or debris, or wipe the sensor or contacts clean.

- Move the robot to open, level floor and restart the clean.

- If the code returns, restart the robot. For Internal error, use the Reset button under the top cover, which wipes Wi-Fi and schedules.

- If it still returns, contact Roborock support. US owners can call 1 855 960 4321, which Roborock lists as 24/7.

## The most common codes in detail

Error 1: Roborock says to power on the robot and watch whether the laser unit on top spins. If it does not, turn it gently by hand and restart.

Error 13: If the dock light stays on while the robot sits on it, the contacts are not touching. Nudge the robot until the light goes off, clean the contacts on both the robot and the dock, unplug the dock for about 2 minutes, and try another outlet.

Error 18: Roborock's first step is to clap the side of the robot several times to knock debris out of the fan. Then empty the bin, dry the filter or fit a new one, and update the firmware.

## When to contact support

Contact Roborock for Error 14 (battery), which has no home fix, and for any code that comes back after you follow the steps above. Have the model, the serial number and the error number ready.

## Questions people ask

### What does Roborock Error 1 mean?

The LiDAR laser unit on top is not spinning or is blocked. Check nothing is stuck around it, turn it gently by hand and restart. Contact support if it keeps happening.

### How do I fix Roborock Error 13?

Error 13 is a charging problem. Clean the charging contacts on the robot and dock with a dry or alcohol cloth or an eraser, reseat the robot until the dock light turns off, check the dock cable, and try another outlet.

### What is Roborock Error 9?

The robot cannot detect the dust bin or filter. Refit both. On newer models, check the filter has a magnet on its side, and replace the filter if it does not.

### What does Error 18 mean on a Roborock?

The fan is blocked or faulty. Clap the side of the robot a few times to dislodge debris, empty the bin, clean or replace the filter and update the firmware.

### How do I reset a Roborock robot vacuum?

Open the top cover and press the Reset button. Its position varies by model, so check the manual or the app diagram. Roborock notes this restores factory settings, including Wi-Fi and schedules.

### What is Roborock Error 42?

On the S7 MaxV Ultra, S7 Max Ultra and S8 Pro Ultra, it means the maintenance brush in the dock is jammed. Clear the jam if it stops on the left, or clean and reseat the filter if it stops on the right.
