## Verdict

The U1 is the most affordable tool changer printer, so it swaps between 4 colors or materials in seconds instead of purging, which saves both time and filament. It is a great pick for anyone who prints a lot of multi color or soluble support models. Skip it if you mostly print one color or need ASA, nylon or carbon fiber, since those need the extra top cover and a hardened nozzle.

## Pros

- 4 toolheads with 5 to 12 second swaps
- Very low purge waste
- Excellent auto leveling and toolhead calibration
- Roomy 270 mm cube build volume
- Klipper with OrcaSlicer support

## Cons

- Top cover for ABS and ASA costs extra
- Early camera and connectivity bugs
- Large footprint with spools, 584 x 499 x 730 mm
- Standard nozzles not for abrasive filaments

## Questions buyers ask

### Why is a tool changer better than an AMS style system?

Each color has its own toolhead, so the printer swaps heads instead of purging filament. Tom's Hardware measured 4.4 g of waste on a print where a Bambu Lab P1P used about 25 g more.

### Can the U1 print ABS or ASA?

Snapmaker says ABS, ASA, PA and PC need the optional Top Cover. Tom's Hardware still printed an ASA part on default settings.

### Does it work with OrcaSlicer?

Yes. It runs Klipper firmware and supports OrcaSlicer and Snapmaker Orca.
