Aiper pool cleaner troubleshooting: lights, error codes and fixes
Aiper pool cleaner troubleshooting starts with the charging light and the error code in the Aiper app. This guide lists the E1 to E5 codes, the charger and robot light states and the beeps that Aiper explains in its Scuba support articles, with the fix Aiper gives for each.
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 21, 2026 · How we research
Aiper Scuba errors show as E codes in the Aiper app: E1 is a drive motor problem, E2 a clogged filter or pump, E3 a sensor fault, E4 a battery or charging fault and E5 water inside the robot. On the charger, red means charging and green means ready or full. A yellow blinking or beeping charger means poor contact, and red flashing with a heat warning means stop charging and call Aiper. For most faults Aiper says to clean the part, then power cycle the robot.
| Light, code or alert | What it means | Fix from Aiper |
|---|---|---|
| E1 in the app | Drive motor problem | Clear debris from the wheels and rollers, rinse the robot, then power cycle it |
| E2 in the app | Filter or pump blockage | Take out the filter basket and clean it |
| E3 in the app | Sensor abnormality | Turn the robot off, wait 15 seconds, turn it on and let the 30 second start up check finish before it goes in the pool |
| E4 in the app | Battery or charging management fault | Follow the charging light steps below; contact support if it stays |
| E5 in the app | Water has got inside the robot | Take it out of the pool at once, let it dry fully, contact support if the code stays |
| Charger light green, robot not connected | Charger has power and works | Connect it to the robot |
| Charger light off, plugged into the wall | Charger has failed | Try another outlet; if still dark, get a genuine replacement from Aiper |
| Charging light red | Battery is charging | Wait. Do not put the robot in the pool until the light turns green |
| Charging light back to green | Battery is full | Ready to clean |
| Charger stays green after you connect it | Robot is not making contact | Clean the charging pins on the robot and charger with isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab, then reconnect |
| Yellow or amber blinking while charging | Battery system calibrating or poor port contact | Unplug for 30 seconds, dry and clean the port, reconnect; if it lasts over 2 to 3 minutes try another outlet, then contact support with a video |
| Beeping with yellow flashing while charging | Charger and battery are not talking | Unplug, wipe the port contacts with a dry cloth and try again |
| Red flashing while charging with a high temperature warning | Possible battery fault | Stop charging, unplug, move it away from anything that burns, let it cool and do not recharge; contact Aiper |
| Steady beeping at 75 to 80% charge (X1 Pro Max) | Charging port or battery management fault | Try another wall outlet; if it keeps beeping, claim warranty service |
| Robot light solid green | Robot is connected to the app | Nothing |
| Robot light red or flashing yellow after you lift it out (S1) | Robot error | Contact Aiper support |
| Light flashes 3 times while you hold power for 10 seconds | Factory reset accepted | Release the button and add the robot in the app again |
| Device Offline in the app | Normal underwater, since WiFi does not reach through water | Lift the robot out, bring it into WiFi range, reopen the app or power cycle the robot |
| Jam reported but nothing visible (S1) | Debris in the drainage motor | Check the top spray reaches about 12 inches, turn each roller by hand and clear the intake and outlet ports |
Meanings and fixes from Aiper's own troubleshooting articles for the Scuba X1, N1, SE, S1, S3 and V3 on aiper.com, checked October 21, 2026. Aiper publishes the E1 to E5 list in its X1 and N1 articles (the N1 article lists E1 to E4); it does not publish a separate code list for the Scuba V3, so check the app or Aiper support for your model.
If the same code comes back after the fix, contact Aiper support first, especially under warranty. Out of warranty, compare the repair quote with a new robot's price and 3 year cost.

Aiper recalls
We read every question. When several owners ask the same thing, the answer goes on this page.
Where Aiper shows errors
Aiper Scuba robots report problems in two places. Error codes such as E1 to E5 appear in the Aiper app. The charger and the robot also have a status light, and the charger light is the one most owners see, because it changes color as the battery charges.
Aiper writes separate support articles for each Scuba model, and not every article covers every light. The codes in the table come from the X1 and N1 articles, and the charging lights come from the N1, SE and S3 articles. Treat them as the general Scuba pattern and check your model's article or the app when in doubt.
The general fix sequence
Aiper's articles follow the same order for most faults. Try these steps before you contact support.
- Take the robot out of the water and clear the cause: debris in the wheels, rollers or brush axle, or a full filter basket.
- Power cycle: turn it off, wait 15 seconds, turn it back on and let the start up check finish before it goes back in the pool.
- Update the firmware in the Aiper app if an update is offered.
- As a last resort, factory reset: hold the power button for 10 seconds until the light flashes three times. This erases WiFi details and schedules, so you must add the robot in the app again on a 2.4 GHz network.
- If the fault returns, contact Aiper with the serial number, purchase date, error code and a video if you can.
When the robot will not charge or turn on
Start with the charger. Plug it into the wall on its own: a green light means the charger is good, and no light means it has failed. Connect it to the robot and the light should turn red. If it stays green, clean the pins on both sides. Aiper warns against third party chargers.
Temperature also stops charging. In its S3 article Aiper says the battery will not charge below 10°C (50°F) or above 40°C (104°F), so bring a robot from a hot deck or cold garage indoors and let it settle first. A battery left empty for months can be locked out by its protection circuit, and Aiper says that needs a battery replacement through support, not a home fix.
To protect the battery, Aiper suggests storing the robot at 50 to 60% charge and not leaving it on the charger for more than 24 hours.
Lost connection, loops and stuck robots
Losing the app connection while the robot is underwater is normal. When the V3 finishes or runs low, it climbs to the waterline and tries to reconnect for up to 10 minutes. If you miss that window it sinks again and waits for you to lift it out with the hook.
If a V3 keeps cleaning in a loop, Aiper says to clear hair from the brush axle ends, then delete the schedule and create a new one instead of editing it. If it gets stuck on a raised drain cover, update the firmware and start it from the other side of the pool, then upload a log from the app and contact support if it keeps happening.
When to contact Aiper
Contact support for E5 that will not clear after drying, E3 that returns after several restarts, a red flashing charge light with a heat warning, or a yellow charge light that stays after you try another outlet. Aiper support is at +1 866 850 0666, every day 8 AM to 8 PM ET, or [email protected], and warranty claims go through the warranty form on aiper.com.
Aiper says opening the sealed housing or replacing the battery yourself voids the warranty. In our data the Scuba V3 carries a 2 year warranty.

Questions people ask
What do Aiper error codes E1 to E5 mean?
E1 is a drive motor problem, E2 a filter or pump blockage, E3 a sensor fault, E4 a battery or charging fault and E5 means water got inside. Aiper lists these in its Scuba X1 and N1 support articles.
Why is my Aiper pool cleaner flashing red?
A steady red charging light is normal and means it is charging. Red flashing during charging with a high temperature warning means stop charging, let the robot cool away from anything flammable and contact Aiper, since it may be a battery fault.
Why is my Aiper beeping while charging?
Beeping with a yellow flashing light means the charger and battery are not communicating, so unplug and wipe the contacts dry. Steady beeping at 75 to 80% charge on the X1 Pro Max points to a port or battery management fault that Aiper covers under warranty.
How do I reset my Aiper Scuba?
Hold the power button for 10 seconds until the light flashes three times, then release. The reset clears WiFi details and schedules, so add the robot in the Aiper app again. If it does not flash three times, charge it fully and try again.
Why won't my Aiper pool cleaner charge?
Check the charger light on its own first: no light means a dead charger. Then check temperature, since Aiper says charging stops below 10°C or above 40°C. Clean the charging pins if the light stays green after you connect it.
Why does the Aiper app say my robot is offline?
WiFi does not pass through water, so the app loses the robot while it cleans. Lift it out, bring it within WiFi range and it reconnects. Aiper says this can take up to 10 minutes after a cycle ends.
