Short answer

As of October 27, 2026, TP-Link lists eight voice prompt errors for its Tapo LiDAR robot vacuums, including the RV30 Max Plus. Error 1 is the battery (wait until it is between 0 and 40 °C), Error 2 the wheel module (clear the wheels and restart), Error 3 the side brush, Error 4 the suction fan (clear the fan port, clean the dust box and filter), Error 5 the main brush (clean the brush, its connection, cover and suction port), Error 6 the water pump, Error 7 the LiDAR (clear and wipe the laser sensor), and Error 8 abnormal operation (set the main power switch to ON). Restart the robot after each fix.

From TP-Link's Tapo FAQs Voice Prompts for Issues (For LiDAR Navigation Robot Vacuum), LiDAR of the Robot Vacuum Reports Errors, main wheel errors and charging failure, checked October 27, 2026. TP-Link lists the RV30 Max Plus among the models for the LiDAR and wheel articles. The exact spoken wording can vary by firmware.

How Tapo errors show up

Tapo LiDAR robots announce problems out loud. Each numbered prompt follows the same pattern, for example Error 2: Wheel Module Error. Please refer to the manual or app. The Tapo app shows the same alert, so you can check it later if you missed the voice.

TP-Link publishes eight numbered errors for its LiDAR navigation robots. On top of those, the robot can say the LiDAR is obstructed or stuck, and the dock has its own power light. The RV30 Max Plus is one of the models TP-Link names for these LiDAR and wheel troubleshooting pages.

For nearly every error, the last step is the same: restart the robot after you clean the part. If the same number comes back, that is when TP-Link sends you to technical support.

Brush, wheel and fan errors (2 to 5)

These four are the most common, and they usually mean something is wrapped around or stuck in a moving part. For Error 2, clean the main wheels, then push and shake each one to make sure it moves freely and springs back. TP-Link's main wheel article lists the RV30 Max Plus by name. For Error 3, pull hair and string off the side brush.

Error 4 points at the suction fan. Check the fan port for debris, then clean the dust box and the filter. A packed filter is a frequent cause, so tap it clean or swap in a fresh one. Error 5 is the main brush. Remove the brush, then clean the brush itself, its connection point, the brush cover and the dust suction port behind it. Hair often winds into the brush ends, so check there.

LiDAR errors and obstruction prompts

The round LiDAR turret on top is how the robot maps your home. For Error 7, power the robot on and watch whether the LiDAR spins. If it does not, look for hair, dust or other debris, remove it and wipe the sensor with a dry microfiber cloth. Restart and see if the error returns.

If the robot says the LiDAR is obstructed, something is covering the optical window the laser shines through. Wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth. If it says the LiDAR is stuck or entangled, turn the turret gently by hand. Stop if you feel strong resistance, since forcing it can damage the motor. Remove any debris you find and restart. Low furniture that scrapes the turret can also cause these prompts.

Battery, water pump, power and charging problems

Error 1 is about battery temperature. TP-Link says to wait until the battery is between 0 and 40 °C, which is 32 to 104 °F. Keep the robot and dock out of hot sun and away from heaters, and let a cold robot warm up indoors.

Error 6 is the water pump used for mopping. Clean the water tank, the pump connection points on both the tank and the robot, and the water outlet on the bottom, then check the mop module is fitted. Error 8 is simple: the main power switch is off. Set it to ON.

If the robot will not charge, take it off the dock and check that the dock's indicator light is on. If it is off, check both ends of the power adapter. Then clean the spring contacts on the dock and the charging contacts on the robot, and make sure the power switch on the left side of the robot is set to ON.

When a repeat error means a worn part

If the same error returns right after a careful clean, the part itself may be worn. Error 3 that keeps coming back often means a side brush with bent or missing bristles. Error 5 that returns can mean a worn main brush or brush cover; TP-Link sells both and has guides for replacing the main brush, the brush cover and the side brush. Error 4 that keeps coming back after cleaning points at an old, clogged filter, which is also a replacement part.

Other repeat errors point at parts inside the robot. Error 2 that returns with clean wheels suggests the wheel module. Error 7 that returns, or a LiDAR that resists when you turn it, suggests the LiDAR motor. Error 1 in a normal room temperature suggests the battery is ageing. These are jobs for TP-Link support rather than home repair.

When to contact TP-Link support or use the warranty

TP-Link's Tapo FAQs say to contact TP-Link technical support if an error stays after the listed steps. Before you call, note the error number, your model and hardware version, and try a firmware update, since TP-Link suggests checking for the latest firmware on the model's support page.

Warranty terms for Tapo robot vacuums sit on TP-Link's Replacement and Warranty page for the US. Keep your receipt. Brushes, filters, mop cloths and dust bags are normal wear parts, so a worn brush is a replacement purchase, while a wheel module, LiDAR or battery fault on a newer robot is the kind of problem to raise with TP-Link.
