NEO is the closest thing to a home humanoid you can reserve today, with a published price, a real factory and full specs. But 1X has not announced a single customer delivery as of early October 2026, and reporters who saw it found that hard chores were done by a remote human. Reserve it only if you accept being an early tester who shares your home with 1X's operators.

R1 is the only humanoid here you can order and receive now at a published price, and it walks, runs and gets up on its own. It has no working hands in the base model and about an hour of battery, so it is a showpiece and coding platform, not a housekeeper. Buy it for fun or development, not to save time on chores.

What reviewers found
1X NEO
- The Wall Street Journal (Joanna Stern), as summarized by Daring Fireball: Stern tried NEO before preorders. A human operator in a VR headset controlled it; it nearly tipped over closing a dishwasher, took about two minutes to fold a shirt and twisted an arm during a dance. She raised privacy concerns about operators seeing through its cameras. Source
- Dezeen (Ellen Eberhardt): Toured 1X's Palo Alto facility and saw NEO units and parts but did not report watching it do chores. Reported that most tasks still require teleoperation through a VR headset and that NEO is only partly autonomous for now. Source
Unitree R1
- Businessonline.it (Marcello Tansini): In a "we tried it" piece, found R1 compact and agile, able to walk, run and stand up after a fall, but with fixed hands that cannot pick up, carry or clean, limited torque and about an hour of battery. Called it a demo, education and developer machine, not a domestic assistant. Source
