1X NEO
Soft bodied home humanoid on $20,000 preorder, US deliveries promised 2026
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 16, 2026
SCORED
NEO is the closest thing to a home humanoid you can reserve today, with a published price, a real factory and full specs. But 1X has not announced a single customer delivery as of early October 2026, and reporters who saw it found that hard chores were done by a remote human. Reserve it only if you accept being an early tester who shares your home with 1X's operators.
Best for: Early adopters who want the first legged home humanoid and are comfortable with remote operators in their home. Skip if: You want a robot that does chores on its own today, or you will not allow company staff to see through cameras in your home.
Specs
- Height
- 5 ft 6 in
- Weight
- 66 lb
- Payload
- Lifts 154 lb, carries 55 lb, 18 lb arm payload (maker)
- Battery runtime
- 4 hours per charge from an 842 Wh battery; quick charge of 6 minutes per hour of runtime (maker)

The WSJ's October 2025 demo was run by a human operator in a VR headset, and Dezeen reported in April 2026 that most tasks still need teleoperation.
- Home tasks
- Folding laundry, organizing shelves, tidying, opening the door, fetching items, turning off lights, scheduled chores (maker)
- Ship date
- Maker says US deliveries start in 2026, Early Access buyers first and $499/month subscribers later. No customer delivery had been announced as of October 5, 2026 (BotInfo), and 1X said in April 2026 that first units were going to internal testing.

What independent reviewers found
- Stern tried NEO before preorders. A human operator in a VR headset controlled it; it nearly tipped over closing a dishwasher, took about two minutes to fold a shirt and twisted an arm during a dance. She raised privacy concerns about operators seeing through its cameras.
- The Wall Street Journal (Joanna Stern), as summarized by Daring Fireball
- Toured 1X's Palo Alto facility and saw NEO units and parts but did not report watching it do chores. Reported that most tasks still require teleoperation through a VR headset and that NEO is only partly autonomous for now.
- Dezeen (Ellen Eberhardt)

Questions buyers ask
When will NEO actually arrive?
1X says US deliveries start in 2026, Early Access buyers first. As of October 5, 2026 BotInfo found no announced customer delivery, and 1X's CEO has said the factory reaches full rate only near the end of 2026.
Will a person be controlling it in my home?
Sometimes. 1X says NEO is autonomous by default, but for chores it does not know you can schedule a 1X Expert, a US based employee, to guide it remotely. You approve each session and the ear rings change color while an Expert is connected.
Is the $499 monthly plan cheaper?
Over three years it adds up to $17,964, close to the $20,000 purchase price, and it ships after Early Access orders. Buying includes a 3 year warranty.
Is the deposit refundable?
1X lists a $200 deposit as fully refundable until NEO is ready for delivery.
