Short answer

1X sells NEO in two ways: Early Access ownership for $20,000 with a 3 year warranty and priority delivery, or a Standard subscription at $499 a month. A $200 deposit puts you on a waitlist; it does not buy a robot. As of October 15, 2026, 1X's order page still reads "US Deliveries start 2026" with no customer delivery date announced. Expect a human 1X operator to help with chores NEO cannot do yet.

What NEO costs

1X lists two plans on its order page as of October 15, 2026. Early Access is ownership for $20,000 and includes a 3 year warranty, premium support and priority delivery. Standard is a subscription at $499 a month with a Starter Productivity Package and standard delivery. The Standard plan lists no warranty.

The $200 deposit is not a purchase. 1X's pre-order terms say a preorder puts you on a waitlist for an Order Invitation, and 1X makes no promise about when that invitation arrives. You can cancel for a full refund until 14 days after the invitation is sent. After that, the deposit is non-refundable even if you do not buy.

The terms also say final pricing and add-ons can change before 1X accepts your order. 1X has not published running costs, and its order page FAQ asks "How much does it cost to run?" without a public answer.

Shipping status as of October 2026

1X opened preorders on October 28, 2025. The Robot Report wrote at the time that first orders would ship to US homes in 2026, with other markets from 2027.

1X opened a 58,000 sq ft factory in Hayward, California in spring 2026. The Robot Report reported on May 6, 2026 that the line was supplying R&D and internal home testing, and that the first year of production sold out within five days of the October launch.

As of October 15, 2026, 1X's order page still says only "US Deliveries start 2026." BotInfo checked the order page and 1X's news page on October 5, 2026 and found no announced customer delivery. Physical AI Lab's August 2026 guide made the same point: 2026 delivery is not promised for every preorder, and Early Access buyers come before subscribers. If you preorder now, assume your delivery date is unknown.

What NEO can do, according to 1X

These are maker claims. No independent reviewer has published a test of a customer unit as of October 15, 2026.

1X says NEO runs on its Redwood AI with "basic autonomy at launch" that improves over time. Owners give NEO a list of chores and a schedule through the app. 1X also lists a voice interface, memory, self charging, a machine washable suit and use as a Bluetooth speaker.

  • Height 5 ft 6 in, weight 66 lbs
  • Lifts 154 lbs, carries 55 lbs, 18 lbs per arm
  • 842 Wh battery, about 4 hours of run time
  • 22 dB noise, which 1X says is quieter than a modern refrigerator
  • Hands rated IP68, body IP44 (splash proof)
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 5G; dual 8.85 MP stereo fisheye cameras
  • Colors at launch: tan, gray and dark brown

Teleoperation: who is really doing the chores

For chores NEO does not know, 1X lets owners schedule a 1X Expert, a remote human operator, to guide the robot. 1X says this both finishes the job and teaches NEO the task. Road to VR reported that these operators use Quest 3 VR headsets. You can also drive NEO yourself through the app or a VR headset.

BotInfo's summary of 1X's FAQ says you schedule each Expert session and accept the Expert by voice or in the app, NEO's ear rings change color while an Expert is connected, and the Experts are US based 1X employees.

At launch, the demo was fully remote controlled. Decrypt reported that in the Wall Street Journal's October 2025 demo, every task Joanna Stern saw was run by a human in a VR headset. Fetching a water bottle from a fridge about 10 feet away took over a minute, and loading a few dishes took more than five minutes. 1X told Road to VR that NEO will do "most of the things in your home autonomously" when it ships. That is a promise, not a published result.

Privacy questions

NEO has cameras and microphones, moves through your home, and can be piloted by a remote person. 1X's privacy controls, as reported by The Robot Report, include "no go" zones the robot will never enter and blurring the faces of people it sees. BotInfo reports 1X says some sensor data may go to its servers to complete a request, that you can opt out of sharing data to improve NEO, and that 1X does not sell the data.

CEO Bernt Børnich has been direct that data is part of the deal. He told Road to VR, "If we don't have your data, we can't make the product better," and Decrypt quoted him saying "You have to be okay with this for the product to be useful." Gary Marcus told Decrypt the privacy concerns "will be huge."

What reviewers and press found

Joanna Stern called the WSJ demo meaningful but showed that tasks were teleoperated and slow, and that the unit needed breaks to cool down and recharge. UC Berkeley's Ken Goldberg told Decrypt the launch was "premature." Marques Brownlee described NEO as a preorder for a product that "currently is not finished."

Who should preorder and who should wait

A $200 refundable deposit is a low cost way to hold a place if you are curious. Paying $20,000 or signing a $499 a month subscription makes sense only once you see independent reviews of shipped units and know how much of the work is done by remote operators.

If your main need is laundry, a cheaper, narrower robot may arrive sooner. See our guide to robots that fold laundry and our list of every home humanoid on sale or preorder.
