A cheap way into a self emptying, mop washing dock with long runtime. Vacuum Wars found good carpet cleaning and no hair tangles, but weak pet hair pickup, poor obstacle avoidance and wet mopping. Spend more on the L40s Ultra or AE if you have pets or clutter.

The cheapest Roomba that maps with LiDAR, mops with a pad and empties itself. It is basic: the mop is a damp cloth, there is no camera, and Tek.no rated it mediocre with weak suction and some stuck runs. Buy it only on sale; at $469.99 on iRobot's store, stronger rivals cost the same.

What reviewers found

Dreame L40s Ultra CE

  • Vacuum Wars (3.10 Vacuum Wars stars): 89% carpet sand removal, 68% pet hair pickup, 0% hair wrap, 8 of 24 obstacles avoided, about 1,922 sq ft per charge and 2.20 g of water left behind, the most of the three L40s models. Not in its Top 20. Source
  • The Smart Home Hookup: Ranked it with the Mova P50 Ultra at the top for vacuuming among robots from the last three years and tied for first in mopping with the Narwal Flow. Noted the detergent dispenser is sold separately; listed $469.99 MSRP. Source

iRobot Roomba 105 Combo + AutoEmpty Dock

  • Tek.no (Norway): Rated it mediocre. Vacuums well and LiDAR improved navigation over older Roombas, but it got stuck, took a long time, has lower suction than rivals and a basic wet cloth mop. Source
  • Just A Dad Approved (4.6/10): After about three months of home use it scored 5.5 of 10 for mopping, 6 for carpet, 5 for hair tangle and 1.5 for obstacle avoidance, running over items under about 3 inches. Only 2 of 6 marketing claims passed. The reviewer advised skipping it at full price. The page prints 4.6/10 in one place and 4.8 out of 10 in another. Source
  • Vacuum Chef: Hands on test with the AutoEmpty dock. Measured 395 FPM airflow on carpet against a 420 FPM category average, the best it has recorded for an entry level iRobot. Mapping was much faster than older non LiDAR Roombas. The mop only drags and does not lift, hair tangles on the roller and the firmware update took nearly an hour. Source
