Ecovacs Deebot keeps getting stuck: causes and fixes
An Ecovacs Deebot that keeps getting stuck is usually wedging its top cover or LiDAR under furniture, tangling its drive wheels with hair, reading dusty anti drop sensors, or meeting a threshold taller than it can climb. Here are the causes and fixes from Ecovacs support.
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 27, 2026 · How we research
Most Deebots get stuck under sofas, where the top cover or LiDAR catches. Draw a virtual boundary around that furniture in the ECOVACS HOME app or raise it. If the robot stalls or circles anywhere, power it off, flip it, clear hair from the drive wheels, wipe the anti drop sensors, and press the bumper to check it springs back.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Stuck under a sofa or bed | Top cover or LiDAR caught on the frame | Draw a virtual boundary around it in the app, or raise the furniture with pads. |
| Drive wheels will not turn | Hair or debris wound around the wheels | Power off, flip the robot, then press and rotate each wheel to clear it. |
| Wheels stuck on a new robot | Shipping protection strips still fitted | Remove the anti collision protection strips before the first run. |
| Spins in circles or backs up | Dusty anti drop sensors | Wipe the anti drop sensors under the robot with the supplied cleaning tool. |
| Circles, bumper feels stiff | Bumper rail stuck | Press each side of the bumper and check it springs back on its own. |
| Stops at a doorway | Threshold taller than about 2 cm | Expect it to stop there, or clean hair off the drive wheels so it climbs better. |
| Skips a room with a mat at the door | Carpet avoided in vacuum and mop mode | Move the mat, or clean that room in vacuum only mode. |
| Puddle where it got stuck | Pump keeps running while it escapes | Fence off that obstacle with a virtual boundary. |
| Front wheel stiff or noisy | Dust and hair in the caster wheel | Clean the front caster wheel, its cavity and axle, then refit it securely. |

Top picks right now
1. Furniture traps
Ecovacs' most common stuck case is furniture with just enough gap for the robot to enter. The top cover or the LiDAR turret (LDS) catches on the frame of a sofa or bed and the robot cannot finish. Ecovacs gives two fixes: draw a virtual boundary around that furniture in the ECOVACS HOME app so the robot stays out, or raise the furniture with pads so the robot passes underneath cleanly.
In mopping mode the pump keeps running while the robot tries to escape, which is why you may find a puddle where it was trapped. A virtual boundary around that obstacle fixes both problems.
2. Clean the wheels, sensors and bumper
If the robot stalls in open floor, spins in circles or reverses after starting, the cause is on the robot. Ecovacs' steps:
- On a new robot, remove the anti collision protection strips first.
- Power the robot off, flip it and rest it gently upside down.
- Press and rotate each drive wheel and remove tangled hair or debris. Cut stubborn hair with the cleaning tool.
- Clean the front caster wheel, its cavity and its axle, then refit it securely.
- Wipe the anti drop sensors on the underside with the cleaning tool.
- Press each side of the bumper rail and check that it rebounds on its own.
- Turn it back on and test on a clear, flat floor. It should drive straight and turn freely.
3. Thresholds, rugs and mats
Deebot models can cross obstacles up to about 2 cm. Ecovacs says models like the X1 will not attempt a threshold or step taller than they can climb, and that the 20 mm rating on the N10 was measured in a lab. The shape, width and approach angle of your threshold matter, and hair on the drive wheels lowers climbing ability. Some newer models with auxiliary climbing wheels go higher, so check your model's spec.
In vacuum and mop mode a Deebot will not cross a carpet or floor mat, to keep it dry. A mat in a doorway can therefore cut off a whole room. Move the mat or run that room in vacuum only mode. Loose cords, toys and rug fringes can also jam a wheel, so tidy the floor before a run.
4. When a wheel needs replacing
After cleaning, each wheel should turn by hand without grinding and spring back when pressed. Ecovacs says a wheel that stays stiff, fails to rebound, triggers repeated overload warnings, or makes the robot stop mid clean points to internal wear or a motor problem that cleaning will not fix. At that point the drive wheel module or the front caster wheel is the part to replace, and worn treads that lose grip are another sign.
5. Contact Ecovacs or replace the robot?
If the robot still gets stuck in open areas after you clean the wheels, sensors and bumper, contact ECOVACS Customer Service. Deebot robot vacuums are covered for at least 12 months from purchase, though normal wear parts and damage from non approved parts are not.
A drive wheel module costs a fraction of a new robot, so a stuck wheel alone is rarely a reason to replace a Deebot. If your home has many low sofas or tall thresholds, though, a model with a lower profile or a better climbing system may suit it better than any fix.
Questions people ask
Why does my Deebot keep getting stuck under the couch?
Its top cover or LiDAR catches on the frame. Draw a virtual boundary around the couch in the app or raise the couch with pads.
Why does my Deebot spin in circles?
Ecovacs lists dusty anti drop sensors, hair tangled on the drive wheels, or a stuck bumper rail. Clean all three.
How high a threshold can a Deebot climb?
About 2 cm on most models, measured in Ecovacs' lab. Real thresholds vary, and dirty wheels reduce climbing.
Why won't my Deebot go into a room?
If a mat or carpet sits in the doorway and the robot is mopping, it avoids it. A tall threshold or a closed door also blocks it.
How do I free a stuck Deebot drive wheel?
Power it off, flip it, then press and rotate the wheel while you pull out hair and debris. Remove the protection strips if the robot is new.
