Husqvarna Automower no loop signal: causes and fixes

No loop signal on an Automower means the mower cannot hear the boundary wire signal, usually because of a wire break, a bad connection at the station, a power problem, or ECO mode. Here are the causes and fixes from Husqvarna's support pages, sorted by the charging station light.

Short answer

Check the charging station light. Flashing blue means a broken boundary wire or loose connector, off means no power, solid red means a power supply or board fault, and flashing green means ECO mode has switched the loop off. Start by pushing the wire ends fully into the station and checking the cable, then hunt for a break with Husqvarna's swap and cut method. If the light is solid green, create a new loop signal in the app.

We read every question. When several owners ask the same thing, the answer goes on this page.

1. Check connections and power first

Husqvarna says No loop signal means the mower and the boundary wire are not communicating. Before you dig anything up, check the simple things at the charging station.

Push the boundary and guide wire connectors fully into the station and make sure the contacts are clean. Check the power supply, low voltage cable and mains cable for damage. Look for a power cut or a tripped residual current device (RCD). If the station light is solid red, unplug the power supply for 30 seconds and reconnect it.

2. Find the wire break

A flashing blue light usually means a cut wire from gardening, weather or animals. Husqvarna suggests a multimeter test first: disconnect the wire and measure resistance across its ends. Expect about 0.8 ohm per 100 m of wire, about 1.6 ohm for 200 m. Several hundred ohm means a break.

  • Turn off ECO mode in the app or on the mower menu under Settings, or the search will not work.
  • Swap the AL and G1 connections at the station. A solid green light means the break is on the boundary wire between AL and the point where the guide wire joins it. Repeat with G2 and G3 if your model has them.
  • Cut the suspect section in the middle, join one half to the station with a spare length of loop wire and a connector, and watch the light. Green means the break is in the disconnected half. Repeat until a short section remains.
  • A wire break detector tool can find clean breaks without cutting, but Husqvarna says it is less reliable on partial breaks.

3. Repair the wire properly

Trim about 2 ft (60 cm) from each damaged end. If you have PRO wire, strip the outer layer. Push both ends into an Automower coupler, check through the clear side that they are fully in, then squeeze it firmly with pliers. Husqvarna says connectors are only for temporary tests; use couplers for the repair. Bury the join or staple it to the ground.

4. When the station light is green

Solid green means the station is sending a signal but the mower cannot detect it. Keep the whole lawn within 115 ft (35 m) of the wire, or 50 ft (15 m) for Aspire R4. Keep total boundary wire under 2,625 ft (800 m), and move the wire or station away from metal fences, reinforcing steel and buried cables.

After a service or a new circuit board, create a new loop signal. In the app over Bluetooth, go to More, Settings, Security, New loop signal. On older keypad models, use Security, Advanced, New loop signal.

5. When to call a dealer

If the wire tests fine but the light still flashes blue, or it stays solid red, Husqvarna points to the charging station circuit board. A dealer can diagnose and replace it. After a thunderstorm, surge damage can hit both the station and the mower even when the wire looks fine. Parts to have on hand for DIY repair: boundary loop wire, Automower couplers and connectors. These fixes come from Husqvarna's support pages; we do not test mowers hands on.

If wire breaks keep coming back on a large or busy yard, a wire free EPOS model removes the boundary wire entirely, though it brings its own satellite signal needs.

Questions people ask

What does a flashing blue light on my Husqvarna charging station mean?

The station cannot form a complete loop, usually from a broken boundary wire or a loose connector. Check connections, then search for the break.

How do I find a break in my Automower boundary wire?

Turn off ECO mode, swap the AL and G1 connections, then split the suspect section in halves with a spare wire until the station light turns green. A wire break detector also works on clean breaks.

Can I repair an Automower boundary wire myself?

Yes. Trim about 2 ft from each damaged end, join them in an Automower coupler, squeeze it with pliers and bury the join.

Why do I get No loop signal when I start the mower in the yard?

ECO mode switches the loop off outside schedules. Start the mower from the station, or press STOP before lifting it out.

How do I create a new loop signal on an Automower?

In Automower Connect over Bluetooth, go to More, Settings, Security, New loop signal. Older keypad models use Security, Advanced, New loop signal.
