Husqvarna Automower won't charge or return to the station: causes and fixes
An Automower that won't charge or can't find its charging station usually has dirty charging contacts, a station with no power, a battery that is too hot or too cold, or a guide wire or signal problem on the way home. Here are the causes and fixes from Husqvarna's support pages, matched to the charging station light and the message you see.
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 27, 2026 · How we research
Look at the charging station light first. Off means no power reaching the station, solid red means a power supply or circuit board fault, flashing red means a damaged antenna in the baseplate, and flashing yellow means a broken guide wire. If the light is normal, clean the charging contacts on the mower and station, clear the docking path, and check that the station sits on flat ground. Husqvarna says the mower also pauses charging when the battery is outside its temperature range.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Station light off | No power at the outlet, loose or damaged low voltage cable, or a station damaged by lightning | Test the outlet with a lamp, reconnect both ends of the low voltage cable, inspect it for damage. Contact a dealer if it died after a storm. |
| Station light solid red | Wrong power supply or a defective circuit board in the station | Check the low voltage cable and replace it if damaged. Unplug the power supply for 30 seconds. If it stays red, a dealer must diagnose it. |
| Station light flashing red | Antenna wire under the baseplate damaged or disconnected | The mower cannot dock. Contact an authorized Husqvarna dealer to inspect or replace the baseplate. |
| Station light flashing yellow | Guide wire broken or badly connected (wire installs) | Check the guide wire connections at the station and boundary wire, look for breaks and repair them. |
| Charging station blocked | Debris in the docking path, uneven ground, oxidized contacts or a short straight guide wire run | Clear the entrance, level the ground with sand or soil, clean the contact plates, and keep the guide wire straight for 7 ft (2 m) in front of the station. |
| Battery temperature outside limits | Battery too hot or too cold to charge | Usually wait. It resumes on its own. If it happens often, move the station into shade or add an Automower House. |
| Empty battery, mower stops on the lawn | Battery near end of life, or the mower cannot find the station in time | Check charging cycles in Automower Connect under Settings, Statistics. A dealer can replace the battery. |
| Will not charge after winter | Battery deeply discharged during storage | Bring the mower indoors, set it on the charging station and leave it for several hours. |
| Mower wanders and never docks | Wrong Find charging station settings, a stay out zone, or an obstacle in the way | In the app go to Menu, Settings, Installation, Find charging station and review the settings. Clear the path. |
| EPOS mower cannot find the station | Weak satellite signal near the station or along the route | Check for weak signal areas and redo the installation if needed. |
| Mower stuck in Secondary Area | Secondary Area mode has no station to return to | Carry the mower back to the main area and select Main Area mode. |

We read every question. When several owners ask the same thing, the answer goes on this page.
1. Read the charging station light
The light on the charging station is the fastest clue. Husqvarna says solid green means the station signals and boundary wire are working. Off, solid red, flashing red and flashing yellow each point to a different fault.
If the light is off, test the wall outlet with a lamp or kettle, then unplug and reconnect both ends of the low voltage cable. Walk the cable and look for cuts. On some models you can plug the power adapter straight into the station to test the cable. Husqvarna notes this test does not apply to the 440, 450X, 450X Nera and 435X AWD, which use a different cable type.
- Solid red: check the low voltage cable, unplug the power supply for 30 seconds, then reconnect. Still red means a dealer visit for the station circuit board.
- Flashing red: the antenna in the baseplate may be broken. Husqvarna says only a service center can inspect and replace the baseplate.
- Flashing yellow: a guide wire fault on wire models. See our no loop signal guide for finding a break.
2. Clean the contacts and fix the docking spot
Most charging failures come down to poor contact. The mower must sit squarely in the station with the charging plates touching. Remove leaves and clippings from the docking area, then clean the contact plates on the station and the charging strips on the mower. Husqvarna suggests a fine abrasive pad or contact cleaner for oxidized contacts.
If the app shows Charging station blocked, level any dip under the station with sand or soil, reconnect loose wires under the station, and make sure the guide wire runs straight for at least 7 ft (2 m) in front of it.
3. Check the battery
Husqvarna says an Automower battery typically lasts 2 to 5 years. Signs of an aging battery are going back to charge more often than usual, or stopping on the lawn with Empty battery and no other error. Open Automower Connect and look at Settings, Statistics for charging cycles and charging time.
The mower also refuses to charge when the battery is too hot or too cold. That pauses by itself. If it keeps happening in summer, move the station into shade. After winter, a battery stored without a full charge may need several hours on the station indoors before it charges normally. Always store the mower fully charged in a dry, frost free place.
4. When it cannot find the station
If the mower runs out of power before it gets home, check the route. On wire models, a broken or misplaced guide wire is the usual cause. Review Menu, Settings, Installation, Find charging station in the app, remove obstacles, and check that no stay out zone blocks the path. On EPOS wire free models, weak satellite signal near the station can stop docking. Husqvarna also notes that a mower left in Secondary Area mode will not find the station, so switch back to Main Area mode.
5. Repair, replace or contact support
Parts you may need: a new low voltage cable, a power supply, a replacement battery, or a charging station circuit board or baseplate. Use genuine Husqvarna parts. Husqvarna sends board, baseplate and battery jobs to an authorized dealer, so book one if the station stays red or flashes red, or if it failed after a thunderstorm. These fixes come from Husqvarna's support pages; we do not test mowers hands on.
On an older mower with a worn battery and a failed station board, compare the repair quote with a new model before you pay. A battery alone is usually worth replacing on a mower that otherwise runs well.

Questions people ask
Why is my Husqvarna charging station light off?
No power is reaching it. Test the outlet, reconnect both ends of the low voltage cable and check it for damage. If it stopped after a storm, contact a Husqvarna dealer.
Why does my Automower leave the station without charging?
Usually poor contact. Clean the charging plates on the station and strips on the mower, clear debris and level the ground under the station.
How long does an Automower battery last?
Husqvarna says 2 to 5 years. Short mowing times and frequent returns to charge are the main signs it is wearing out.
What does a flashing red light on the charging station mean?
The antenna wire under the baseplate may be damaged or disconnected, so the mower cannot dock. Husqvarna says to contact your dealer.
Why won't my Automower charge after winter storage?
The battery may be deeply discharged. Bring it indoors, set it on the charging station and leave it for several hours.
