Roborock keeps getting stuck: causes and fixes

A Roborock that keeps getting stuck is usually trapped under furniture, has a jammed wheel or bumper, or has dirty cliff sensors. Here are the fixes from Roborock's manuals and support pages, matched to the error number.

Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 27, 2026 · How we research

Short answer

Most stuck Roborocks are wedged under furniture, caught on cords or rugs, or have hair jammed in a wheel. Error 8 means the robot is trapped, Error 2 a stuck bumper, Error 3 lifted wheels, Error 4 dirty cliff sensors and Error 7 jammed wheels. Clear the area, free and clean the wheels, wipe the sensors, then set a no go zone or invisible wall in the Roborock app over the spot it keeps getting stuck.

Step by step checks, in order

Roborock's manuals and error list point to the same quick checks for a stuck robot.

  • Lift the robot clear of the trap and put it on open, level floor.
  • Turn it off and turn it over. Pull hair, string and lint from the two main wheels and the front omni wheel. Roborock says the omni wheel can be removed with a screwdriver to clean it.
  • Check the main brush and side brush are not jammed.
  • Wipe the cliff sensors, wall sensor and carpet sensor with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Tap the bumper gently until it moves in and out freely.
  • Empty the dust bin, since Roborock's troubleshooting blog lists a full bin and a trapped wheel as common reasons a robot stops mid clean.
  • Restart the robot.

Block the spots it keeps finding

If the robot gets stuck in the same place every run, use the map in the Roborock app. In a reply on Roborock's forum, Roborock staff said to set a no go zone over a sofa the robot can enter from several sides. If there is only one way under, an invisible wall across the gap may be enough. For a balcony with a drop, staff suggested an invisible wall.

If the robot reports No go zone or invisible wall detected, it started inside a blocked area. Roborock says to move it out and restart. For carpet trouble, Roborock's manual says to move the robot to the other side of the carpet, and you can also set carpets you want skipped as no go zones.

When to replace a part

Owner fix: iFixit's Roborock S5 wiki says a main wheel or front omni wheel that is visibly worn or will not spin freely after cleaning needs replacing, and links a wheel replacement guide. Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra manual says to replace the side brush every 3 to 6 months and the main brush every 6 to 12 months, which also stops worn brushes snagging on rugs.

When to contact Roborock support or use the warranty

Contact Roborock if a wheel error stays after cleaning, if the bumper stays pressed, or if the robot keeps hitting furniture after you clean the sensors. In the US, Roborock lists [email protected] and 1 855 960 4321. New robots have a one year US warranty from purchase. Brushes and other consumables are not covered unless a fault comes from a non consumable part.

When a new robot makes more sense

Older Roborocks without a front camera cannot see socks, cords or pet mess, so they get caught more in cluttered homes. If you are rescuing the robot every run even with no go zones set, a model with camera based obstacle avoidance may save you time. Compare options in our robot vacuum rankings.

Questions people ask

What does Roborock Error 8 mean?

The robot is trapped. Roborock says to clear the obstacles around it and start again.

How do I stop my Roborock going under the couch?

Draw a no go zone over the couch in the Roborock app. If there is only one way under, an invisible wall across the gap can work.

Why does my Roborock say wheels suspended?

That is Error 3. A wheel has lifted, usually on a threshold or object. Move the robot to a new spot and restart.

Why does my Roborock keep stopping on dark rugs or near stairs?

The cliff sensors think there is a drop. Clean them with a dry cloth and move the robot away from the edge. Error 4 is the cliff sensor error.

Why does my Roborock keep bumping into furniture?

Dirty sensors. Roborock says to wipe them clean and contact customer service if it keeps happening.
