Tertill Weeding Robot
Solar puck that trims young weeds in small fenced veggie beds
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Nov 2, 2026
Is the Tertill Weeding Robot worth it? Tertill is the only consumer weeding robot you can order in the US, and it works best as a maintenance tool in small, flat, edged vegetable beds where weeds are still tiny. It costs $349 as of Nov 2, 2026, and Bob Vila scored it 8.6/10.
Tertill is the only consumer weeding robot you can order in the US, and it works best as a maintenance tool in small, flat, edged vegetable beds where weeds are still tiny. It does not clear established weeds, and one tester had three units fail in Florida heat and rain, so skip it for big, lumpy or mulched beds.
Best for: small edged vegetable beds. Skip if: your beds are large, uneven or already overgrown.

Pros
- No charging, runs on its own solar panel
- Cut weeds about as well as hand hoeing in a Cornell field study
- Simple one button use
- Light at 2.5 lb and easy to move between beds
Cons
- Sold out now; orders ship by early spring
- Needs a physical border around the bed
- Ignores tall, established weeds
- Can dig ruts and get stuck in loose or tilled soil
- Pro Tool Reviews had three units fail within months
What independent reviewers found
- Over about two months beside an untreated control bed, the Tertill bed stayed nearly weed free while the control grew weeds over 14 in tall; only a band under 1 in wide along the border sprouted.
- Bob Vila · 8.6/10
- Cleared short weeds in a raised bed in a couple of days, but all three test units stopped working within months in Florida humidity, rain and sun, and the site withdrew its recommendation.
- Pro Tool Reviews
- Got stuck often in an 80 by 8 ft freshly tilled bed, but cleared a small flat bed within about a week and spared the one larger plant.
- Reviewed
- Over 3 weeks in Ithaca, NY, Tertill with its trimmer left 2 to 9 percent weed cover versus 14 to 48 percent in unweeded plots, similar to hand hoeing; it did not reduce grass type weeds and was ineffective without the trimmer.

Questions buyers ask
Will Tertill pull out big weeds?
No. It trims newly sprouted weeds. Testers found it bounces off tall, established weeds, so weed the bed first and let Tertill keep it clean.
Does it need a fence or wire?
It needs a solid border about 3 to 4 in high, such as edging, bricks or timbers. It does not use a boundary wire or GPS.
Can I buy one right now?
As of November 2026 the Tertill store lists it as sold out at $349 and takes orders for delivery by early spring.
