Husqvarna Automower keeps getting stuck: causes and fixes
An Automower that keeps getting stuck is usually hitting the same obstacle, squeezing through gaps that are too narrow, mowing grass that is too tall, or losing grip on a steep or wet slope. Here are the causes and fixes from Husqvarna's support pages, matched to the message you see.
Researched by Riley Hart · updated Oct 27, 2026 · How we research
Look at the message. Trapped means repeated collisions in a tight spot, No drive means the wheels spin without moving, Cutting system blocked means something is stopping the blade disc, and Wheel motor blocked or overloaded means grass or an object on a drive wheel. Clean the wheels and deck, keep grass under your model's maximum height, and fence off repeat trouble spots with a stay out zone or a boundary wire island.
| What you see | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Trapped | Several collisions in a short time from furniture, a narrow passage or long grass | Move the mower to open lawn, remove the object, then add a stay out zone or island around repeat spots. |
| Trapped in the same spot every day | Gap between wire and object, or zone edges, too tight | Widen the gap. Move points in the app map on EPOS models, or move the boundary wire. |
| No drive | Wheels spin but the mower does not move: stuck in a hole, slope too steep or wet | Free the mower, let a wet slope dry before mowing, and check slope limits. |
| No drive on a hill | Guide wire up the slope not laid diagonally (wire models) | Lay the guide wire diagonally across the slope, per Husqvarna. |
| Cutting system blocked | Mower caught on a root or trampoline leg, or grass wrapped round the blade disc | Lift it off, clean under the deck and around the wheels, then isolate the obstacle. |
| Cutting system blocked in tall grass | Grass above the model's limit | Raise the cutting height. Max is 1.6 in on Aspire R4 and 105, 2.5 in on V and E models, 3.9 in on most others. |
| Wheel motor blocked | Grass or an object caught on a drive wheel | Switch off, clean the wheels and the area around them, then restart. |
| Wheel motor overloaded, right or left | Drag on one drive wheel or the mower caught on something | Clear the wheel, free the mower, and wire off or zone off obstacles. |
| Stops on a steep bank | Slope above the model's rating | Check the maximum slope for your model and isolate steeper ground. |

Husqvarna recalls
We read every question. When several owners ask the same thing, the answer goes on this page.
1. Free it and clean it
Switch the mower off before you touch it. Lift it clear of the object, then clean under the cutting deck, around both drive wheels, and between the body and chassis. Husqvarna says clumps of grass can stop the blade disc and grass wrapped on a wheel causes Wheel motor blocked. Restart the mower once it is clean. Regular cleaning prevents most repeat Trapped and Cutting system blocked messages.
2. Isolate the trouble spots
If it gets stuck in the same place, such as under a trampoline or on a tree root, take that area out of the work area.
- EPOS wire free models: in the Automower Connect map, tap the work area or stay out zone, tap Edit, move the points and tap Save.
- Boundary wire models: lay an island around the object, or move the wire to widen any gap that is too narrow.
- Models with AIM Technology can use a stay out zone in the app.
- If it still bumps the object, make the isolated area bigger.
3. Check grass height and slopes
Long grass traps the mower. Keep grass below your model's maximum: 1.6 in (4 cm) for Aspire R4, 105 and 305; 2.5 in (6 cm) for 308V, 312V, Aspire R6V and the E and VE NERA models; and 3.9 in (10 cm) for most other models, including the 400 series and 435X AWD. If the lawn is overgrown, raise the cutting height and lower it step by step.
Slopes matter too. Husqvarna rates most standard models for 40% inside the work area and 15% at the boundary, the 320, 430X, 450X, 430V and 450V NERA for 50% and 25%, and the 435X AWD for 70% and 50%. If the wheels spin on wet grass, let the lawn dry before mowing. On wire models the guide wire should cross a slope diagonally.
4. Parts and support
Husqvarna advises replacing the blades regularly, since dull blades make the mower work harder. If Wheel motor blocked or overloaded keeps coming back with clean wheels and open lawn, contact your local Husqvarna dealer, since the wheel motor may need service. These fixes come from Husqvarna's support pages; we do not test mowers hands on.
If your lawn is steeper than your model's rating, no setting will fix it. That is the case where a different model, such as an AWD Automower, makes more sense than repairs.

Questions people ask
What does Trapped mean on a Husqvarna Automower?
The mower had several loop or collision events in a short time, usually from an obstacle, a narrow passage or long grass.
Why do my Automower wheels spin but it does not move?
That is the No drive message. It is stuck in a hole or behind an obstacle, or the slope is too steep or wet. Let wet grass dry before mowing.
How tall can grass be for an Automower?
It depends on the model: 1.6 in for Aspire R4 and 105, 2.5 in for V and E models, and 3.9 in for most others.
How do I stop my Automower getting stuck under a trampoline?
Create a stay out zone in the app on wire free models, or lay a boundary wire island around it on wire models.
How steep a slope can an Automower handle?
Most standard models handle 40% inside the lawn and 15% at the boundary. The 435X AWD handles 70% and 50%.
