Best overall: Joy for All Companion Pet Cat
The Joy for All cat is made for older adults, including people living with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and people who feel lonely. Joy for All lists it at $159.99. It purrs when stroked, meows and rolls over for a tummy rub. It weighs 3.9 lb and has soft, hypoallergenic fur.
It runs on 4 C batteries that come in the box. There is no app, WiFi or setup, which is exactly why it works for many grandparents. One color, Tuxedo, showed as out of stock on Joy for All's site.
Budget pick: Mova N1 or the Joy for All cat
If the grandparent is active and just wants help around the house, the Mova N1 window robot at $179 saves climbing and stretching. EFTM found it left framed windows streak free and measured about 65 dB. It plugs into the wall, and a family member should tie on the safety tether the first few times.
For comfort rather than chores, the Joy for All cat at $159.99 is the budget winner.
Wow factor: Casio Moflin
Casio Moflin ($429) is a palm sized, furry pet that reacts to voice and touch and builds its own personality over time. Notebookcheck reports Casio says it does not record what you say and stores voice data on the device in a form that does not identify the speaker. Casio's FAQ puts battery life at about 5 hours, with a charge of about 3.5 hours on its bed.
It does not walk or talk. It wiggles and makes soft sounds, which suits someone who wants calm company.
Ages and safety
- Robot vacuums are great for anyone who finds bending hard, but they can catch loose rugs and cords. Do a walk through on gift day.
- ElliQ is not an emergency device. ElliQ's subscription page lists wellness reminders and conversation, not emergency calling, so keep a separate medical alert if one is needed.
- Joy for All asks owners not to soak the fur or put the cat under running water.
- Help with setup. Moflin's app and ElliQ need a family member to get started.
What to avoid and subscriptions
- ElliQ is leased. ElliQ's page lists a $249.99 enrollment fee plus $49.99 a month on an annual plan or $59.99 month to month.
- Moflin and the Joy for All cat need no subscription.
- Avoid robots that need daily app use or voice commands for someone who dislikes phones.
- Avoid a self cleaning litter box if the grandparent has no 2.4 GHz WiFi; Litter-Robot 4's app needs it.
Prices drop around Black Friday: set a price alert
Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and the sale weekend runs through Cyber Monday on November 30. Smart Home Compared notes that most smart home discounts start landing in the weeks before, and that the best prices can sell out within hours. Ecovacs says makers often time promotions to Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas.
Prices already move a lot. During Amazon's October sale, Segway's Navimow i206 AWD mower fell from $999 to $849, and Segway matched that price on its own store, per 9to5Toys. That is $150 back on one gift.
So do not pay full price in early November unless stock is the worry. Open the robot's page on this site and set a price alert. We email you when the price drops, so you can buy on the right day instead of checking every store yourself.
