Dreame robot vacuum keeps getting stuck: causes and fixes

A Dreame robot vacuum that keeps getting stuck is usually going under furniture of the same height as itself, snagging on cords and slippers, slipping on wet floors, or meeting obstacles over its 2 cm crossing height. Here are the causes and fixes from Dreame's help center.

Short answer

Free the robot, remove what it snagged on, and set it down nearby so it can resume. Then set a restricted area or virtual wall around the furniture, chairs or doorways where it sticks. If it stops in open floor, clean the drive wheels and check they spring back, wipe the cliff sensors, and restart it.

1. Free it and let it resume

Dreame's first advice is to look at what the robot is caught on: slippers, wires and plastic bags are common. Untangle it, then place it in a clean spot nearby so it can pick up where it left off. Keep doors open during cleaning so it can reach every area and get back to its dock, and keep people and pets off its route.

2. Fence off the traps

Repeat traps need a boundary in the Dreamehome app. Dreame calls out three kinds:

  • Furniture with a gap about the same height as the robot. It goes under and wedges itself. Set a restricted area there.
  • U shaped chairs, and steel chairs with legs about 2 cm apart. Use a virtual wall or restricted area.
  • Narrow aisles. If furniture or a restricted area leaves too little room to turn, move the furniture or widen the gap around the boundary.

3. Thresholds, door tracks and wet floors

Dreame says its robots can cross obstacles of about 2 cm, and that carrying a water tank makes climbing harder. Vertical steps or a sliding door track in the middle of a room can stop it. A gentle slope helps, or block the spot with a virtual wall.

If the wheels spin without moving, check for standing water, oil or wet floors, which make the wheels slip. Pause the job, clean and wipe the wheels, and mop up the water. Dreame also says too much cleaning solution in the station's clean water tank can make the robot slip while mopping, so reduce it or use plain water. Clean wheels before a run also help it climb.

4. Clean the wheels and sensors

When the robot sticks in open floor, the cause is usually on the robot itself. Dreame's checks:

  • Drive wheel alarm: look for strings, leaves or other objects in the drive wheels and remove them.
  • Press down on the left and right drive wheels and check they bounce back normally.
  • Cliff sensor or robot suspended alerts: wipe the cliff sensors on the bottom with a soft, dry cloth. Your manual shows where they are.
  • Blocked path alerts in open areas: clean the bumper sensor and laser sensor and make sure the bumper rebounds.
  • Restart the robot after cleaning. If it still reports blocked paths, check the map for overlap or offset and rebuild it.

5. When to replace a part or contact Dreame

If a drive wheel is clean but does not rebound, or the wheel alarm comes back after a restart, the drive wheel module is likely worn and is the part to replace. The same goes for a cliff sensor or bumper that keeps reporting errors after cleaning. Dreame asks you to contact its after sales service at that point, which matters most while the robot is under warranty.

A wheel module costs far less than a new robot, so one failing wheel rarely justifies replacement. If your home has many thresholds over 2 cm or lots of low furniture, a model with better obstacle crossing may fit better than any setting change.

Questions people ask

Why does my Dreame robot keep getting stuck under furniture?

Dreame says furniture about the same height as the robot lets it drive in and wedge itself. Set a restricted area around that furniture in the app.

How high can a Dreame robot vacuum climb?

Dreame cites about 2 cm. A full water tank makes climbing harder, and dirty wheels slip.

Why does my Dreame robot slip on the floor?

Standing water, oily floors or too much cleaning solution. Wipe the wheels, mop up water, and reduce the solution or use plain water.

What does the drive wheel alarm mean on a Dreame?

Something is caught in a wheel or a wheel is not springing back. Clear debris, press each wheel to test it, then restart.

How do I clean the cliff sensors on a Dreame robot?

Wipe them with a soft, dry cloth. Your manual shows their location on the bottom of the robot. Restart it afterwards.
