Dreame robot vacuum won't connect to WiFi: causes and fixes

A Dreame robot vacuum that won't connect to WiFi is usually on a 5 GHz network, missing location or local network permission in the Dreamehome app, or blocked by router settings such as a hidden network or MAC filtering. Here are Dreame's fixes, organized by the step where setup fails.

Short answer

Use a 2.4 GHz network, keep the robot and phone close to the router, and turn on location, local network and Bluetooth permissions for the Dreamehome app. Use a WiFi name and password with only letters and numbers, and make sure the router does not hide its name or filter MAC addresses. To restart pairing, hold Spot Clean and Dock until the robot says it is waiting for network configuration.

1. Check the basics first

Dreame robot vacuums only support 2.4 GHz WiFi. If your router broadcasts two names, make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz one and set it to ignore the 5 GHz network. Not sure which is which? Dreame suggests looking at the network name, the band shown in your phone's WiFi details, or the wireless settings in your router.

Keep the robot and phone close to the router, and turn on location permission for the Dreamehome app and Bluetooth on your phone before you start. Dreame says skipping these can make setup fail.

2. Match the fix to the step that failed

Dreame's FAQ splits failures by setup step:

  • First step fails: do not set up from two phones at once, and check the robot's hotspot is on. Reset the robot as prompted on the Device Reset page to turn the hotspot back on.
  • Second step fails: turn on location and local network permissions for Dreamehome in your phone settings, and update the app.
  • Last step fails: use the 2.4 GHz network, check the network name and password, and use only English letters and numbers in both.
  • Router checks: no hidden network name, no VPN or proxy, no web login, and no MAC address blocking or whitelisting.
  • EMQ server error: make sure phone and robot share the same 2.4 GHz network, switch DNS to a public server such as 8.8.8.8, restart the robot and router, and ask your internet provider to check the line.
  • Cannot find the robot hotspot: move the phone close, press the robot's button to enter network configuration, and look for a network named something like Vacuum.

3. Reset the robot's WiFi

To start pairing from scratch, Dreame's steps are to open the robot's top cover, find the WiFi indicator, then press and hold the Spot Clean and Dock buttons together. Release them when you hear the voice prompt saying it is waiting for network configuration. The WiFi light then flashes slowly. Connect your phone to the robot's network and follow the app.

When you join the robot's hotspot, wait until you hear the robot's voice prompt before going back to the app, then wait for the result.

4. Robot goes offline after it connected

Dreame lists three causes. A weak or unsteady WiFi signal drops the connection. The robot may be cleaning in a WiFi dead zone, so it is offline only while it is there. And a robot with a nearly flat battery that is away from the station may go offline to save power. Strengthen coverage where it cleans and let it return to the station after each job.

On X40 series robots, Dreame's app also lets you save more than one WiFi network under Wi Fi management in More functions, which helps if you use separate networks in different parts of the home.

5. Router problem or robot problem?

Dreame's test is a hotspot. Use one phone to share a hotspot and a second phone to set up the robot on it. If the robot connects, your home WiFi is the problem. If it still fails, there may be a hardware issue. Dreame also notes some failures depend on the phone model, so try a different phone.

If nothing works, contact Dreame customer support with your details. A WiFi fault on a robot under warranty is a repair claim, and the robot can still clean from its own buttons, so it is not by itself a reason to replace the robot.

Questions people ask

Does Dreame support 5 GHz WiFi?

No. Dreame says its robot vacuums only support 2.4 GHz. Set your phone to ignore the 5 GHz network during setup.

How do I reset the WiFi on my Dreame robot vacuum?

Open the top cover and hold Spot Clean and Dock together until it says it is waiting for network configuration. The WiFi light then flashes slowly.

What does 'Failed to connect to the EMQ server' mean?

The robot reached your WiFi but not Dreame's server. Put phone and robot on the same 2.4 GHz network, switch DNS to a public server such as 8.8.8.8, and restart the robot and router.

Why does my Dreame robot keep going offline?

Weak WiFi, a dead zone where it cleans, or a low battery away from the station. Improve coverage and let it charge.

Can I use special characters in my WiFi password with Dreame?

Dreame recommends English letters and numbers only in the network name and password, and no special characters.
