Dreame robot vacuum won't charge: causes and fixes

A Dreame robot vacuum that won't charge usually has its base station switched off at the back, a loose or damaged power adapter, dirty or stuck charging contacts, or a station placed where the robot cannot dock. Here are the causes and fixes from Dreame's help center, matched to what you see.

Short answer

Turn on the rocker switch on the back of the base station and check that both ends of its power cord are plugged in and the station light is on. Then cut the power, wipe the charging contacts on the station and the robot, check the station's spring contacts bounce back, and seat the robot squarely. Charge for 2 to 3 hours and watch the level in the Dreamehome app.

1. Make sure the station is on

Dreame's first step is easy to miss: most of its base stations have a rocker switch on the back. Check that both ends of the power cord are plugged in, the rocker switch is on, and the station's indicator light is lit. A station that is plugged in but switched off will never charge the robot.

If the station stays dark, check the adapter plug. Dreame says to reinsert it and, if the adapter is damaged, use a spare adapter to charge the robot.

2. Clean and line up the charging contacts

Most other charging failures come from poor contact between the station and the robot. Dreame's steps:

  • Cut the power to the station.
  • Wipe the charging contacts (the spring contacts) on the station and make sure they rebound normally when pressed.
  • Wipe the charging contact pieces on the robot.
  • Check the robot is not in the station backwards or otherwise placed wrongly.
  • Seat the robot so its contacts meet the station's, restore power, and charge for 2 to 3 hours.
  • Watch the battery level in the Dreamehome app to confirm it is rising.

3. Help it find its way home

A robot that charges when you place it by hand but cannot dock itself has a return problem. Dreame asks you to keep the path between the station and the work area clear and the area within 1 meter of the station open and flat. Keep the station's reflective films clean and unobstructed, keep the robot's LiDAR clean, and wipe mud or dirt off the station baseplate and the drive wheels so they grip the ramp.

If you moved the station, send the robot home with the app's remote control. Dreame says the station location updates automatically the next time the robot leaves it. If the battery is already empty, carry the robot to the station. When none of this helps, Dreame suggests remapping, since the robot's positioning may be off.

4. Short runtime is not always the battery

Turbo and Max suction drain the battery much faster than normal modes, so shorter runs there are expected. Dreame also says to start each job at 100 percent. If a job begins half charged, the robot will head home to recharge when the battery runs low, which is normal behavior. Let it finish and return to the station so it starts the next job full.

If runtime is still poor on a normal mode after a full charge, the battery is likely worn and is the part to replace.

5. Station, adapter, battery or new robot?

Work through the parts in order. A station with no light on a working outlet and with the switch on points to the power adapter, which Dreame suggests swapping. Clean contacts that still will not charge, or contacts that do not spring back, point to the station. A robot that charges but runs short on normal suction points to the battery.

If the problem persists, contact Dreame customer service before buying parts, especially under warranty. An adapter or battery costs far less than a new robot, so replacing the whole robot only makes sense when several parts have failed on an older model.

Questions people ask

Why is my Dreame robot not charging?

Usually the station's rocker switch is off, the power adapter is loose, or the charging contacts are dirty. Turn on the switch, reseat the adapter, and wipe the contacts on the station and robot.

Where is the power switch on a Dreame base station?

Dreame says the rocker switch is on the back of the base station on models like the L10s Ultra, X30 Ultra and X40 Ultra.

How long should a Dreame robot charge?

Dreame's charging FAQ says to charge for 2 to 3 hours after fixing a contact problem and check the level in the app.

Why won't my Dreame robot go back to its station?

Keep the path clear and 1 m around the station open and flat, clean the reflective films and LiDAR, and send it home with the app if you moved the station.

Why does my Dreame battery drain so fast?

Turbo and Max suction use more power, and starting below 100 percent shortens the run. Use a normal mode and start fully charged.
