Matic becomes first home robot maker exempted from FCC Covered List
The FCC cleared Matic's floor robot and dock under the rule that blocks new foreign-made robots. Other vacuum brands have no such approval yet.

Robot vacuums already sold in the US keep working, and models that were already authorized can still be sold. The rule bites on new foreign-made models that need fresh FCC approval, so expect fewer brand-new launches from overseas brands until more exemptions arrive.
Matic, a Mountain View, California robot vacuum maker, announced on October 6, 2026 that the FCC had exempted its Robotic Floor Cleaner (model 4MA0001) and Charging Dock (model 4DK0008) from the Covered List. The exemption took effect October 2, after a Conditional Approval from the US Department of War.
The background is the FCC's July 28, 2026 decision to add foreign-produced advanced robotic devices to the Covered List. Devices on that list cannot get new FCC equipment authorizations, which normally means they cannot be imported or sold as new products. iTechPost reports the definition can cover many modern robot vacuums that navigate, use sensors and connect to a network.
Matic says it is the first home robot company and the first American robotics company to win this approval, joining Husqvarna and ANSCER Robotics. The approval is conditional on Matic following an onshoring plan and continued vetting, and iTechPost reports the FCC can end it if Matic breaks the plan.
iTechPost also argues Matic did not strictly need the waiver: it assembles in California, and its Wi-Fi module already had FCC approval. It adds that Matic does not yet meet a 65 percent US-content threshold, so final assembly here does not make every part domestic.
Matic says its robot processes camera data on the device and does not need an internet connection. That is the company's claim.
The rule already shows up in launch plans. Gizmodo reported that Eufy's new S2 Max mower, shown at IFA in September, has no planned US release. Matic is not yet on our floor rankings.
